BRENNUS MANIFESTO

The sentiment is universally shared: the world is undergoing a shift unprecedented since the fall of the Berlin Wall. In Europe, many decision-makers and experts are on the defensive: the rise of Asia, the growing role played by the BRICS countries, the war in Ukraine and the war in the Middle East are forcing us to question all the certainties on which the current political choices of NATO and the European Union are based.

The founders of the Brennus Institute propose to take up this contemporary challenge. Faced with such a profound change, what is needed, as they say, is a ‘paradigm shift’. The interpretative frameworks used by many Western analysts are obsolete. Too often, the explanatory models used aim to outwit reality – when they do not simply consist of trying at all costs to preserve the privileges of the old world.

In 2023, the BRICS bloc contributed 31.5% to global GDP, exceeding the G7’s share (30.7% of global GDP) for the first time. In 1990, the group of countries that now make up the BRICS accounted for 10% of global GDP. Even before the war in Ukraine, the dollar’s share of central bank reserves had fallen from 71% in 1999 to 59% in 2021. At first glance, such developments should come as no surprise: they are the result of the globalisation that the G7 countries called for and implemented. But as they effectively mean a more competitive world for the established powers, it is understandable that the international community has entered a phase of growing tensions.

‘Happy globalisation’ was based in part on an illusion: that the rest of the world would accept the West’s ‘benevolent hegemony’ in the long term. In reality, no modern international system can function sustainably without respecting the principle of equality between peoples, or without carefully consolidating the state sovereignties built up over history. The great contemporary geopolitical shift should be played down: it is in the nature of things. The ‘rest of the world’ aspires to determine its own destiny and co-manage the affairs of the planet.

Faced with this reality, we can tense up and react violently, or we can see it as an opportunity: this is the choice made by the Brennus Institute.

We come from different European countries (Austria, France, Great Britain) and we want our continent, its entrepreneurs, its creators, its decision-makers, and its students to participate fully in the movement of the world! We are used to working with all continents and we would like our continent, Europe, to become one of the centres of the multipolar world rather than reacting like a besieged fortress defending its last privileges. We bring together complementary professional experiences to understand the great shift that is underway: the business world, the defence and diplomacy sectors, and the academic world.

With our international experience, our knowledge of the world of training and our networks, we offer to support business leaders and public decision-makers in building a strategy adapted to the multipolar world and the opportunities it brings.

To this end, we provide verified information, tools and methods for analysis and anticipation, training, assessments and placement in academic programmes of excellence, and appropriate personal and institutional networks. The multipolar world is frightening because of the complexity of the decisions that must be made. It requires processing an ever-increasing amount of information, which must be sorted and worked with qualitatively. The new world requires the expansion of networks, even into environments that are initially unfamiliar. It calls for ongoing training and a renewal of recruitment channels.

The Brennus Institute helps you put all the odds in your favour to succeed in the new geopolitical landscape.

We respect the principle of equality between peoples and strive to contribute to the prudent consolidation of state sovereignties built by history.

We want Europe to become one of the centres of the multipolar world. Our action therefore aims to create shared prosperity and shared ‘energy acquisition’, not only for ourselves, but also and above all for our partners.

We consider the current major geopolitical upheaval to be a natural part of organic growth: it is in the nature of things. Our approach is therefore based on an open quest for knowledge, which must be carefully examined before being integrated into new concepts and strategies.

In this context, we are committed to recognising what has proven itself and what is viable, and to giving it an appropriate place in our work.

We are aware that any description of what we call ‘reality’ is only a partial aspect. That is why it is essential for us to communicate, exchange information and cooperate continuously with our partners throughout Europe. We reject blind dogmatism.
